Self-Healing Autonomous Material May Sense Damage; Repair Structural Materials
Researchers at Arizona State University have created a self-healing material that may be able to sense damage in structural materials such as in fiber-reinforced composite. “Shape memory” polymers with an embedded fiber-optic network detect damage and produce a response that mimics healing traits. Science Daily published this story, referencing an article published by the researchers in the Journal of Applied Physics.
